Font Awesome 5 Problem DetailsError: JavaScript is needed to render this site: please enable it.
There are two problems: 1 when using Microsoft’s app Universal Character Map, and
selecting Font Awesome 5, the app crashes with most versions of Font Awesome 5,
and 2 if the app does not crash, it may not display any of the Font Awesome 5 glyphs, so the app is useless with this font.
This author has found that, when the app crashes, the only fix is to uninstall Font Awesome 5.
This author does not know whether the faults are in the app, or in the font files, but has noted that the first problem has occurred with virtually all versions of Font Awesome 5. The pattern of faults indicates that the Font Awesome developer is not bothering to test it with Universal Character Map, and suggests that, when it does work with a particular versions of Font Awesome 5, this is only by accident.
NB: neither problem exists with Font Awesome 4: 1 Microsoft’s app Universal Character Map does not crash when selecting Font Awesome 4; and 2 the app successfully displays the Font Awesome 4 glyphs.
