Tools - Software Tools That I Use

This lists software tools I use in developing websites.

Primary Tools

I mainly use NoteTab Pro, PaintShop Pro, ImageStyler, A Real Validator, FileZilla, and various browsers:

  • NoteTab Pro: I use this for editing text files, mainly HTML, xHTML, CSS, and JavaScript files.
  • PaintShop Pro: I use this as my primary tool for editing graphics, mainly GIF, PNG, and JPEG files.
  • ImageStyler: I use this as a secondary tool for editing graphics, mainly PNG files.
  • A Real Validator: I use this to validate HTML and xHTML files.
  • FileZilla: I use this to transfer files to/from web servers.
  • Various Browsers: I use a variety of browsers to test websites.

Audacity I use Audacity to edit some audio files.

Edge I use Microsoft’s Edge for Android & Windows to test websites.
Firefox I use Mozilla’s Firefox for Android & Windows to test websites, and I use Firefox as my primary browser.
Focus I use Mozilla’s Focus for Android to test websites.
K-Meleon I use K-Meleon to test websites on Windows.
Opera I use Opera for Android & Windows to test websites.
Opera Mini I use Opera Mini for Android to test websites.
Pale Moon I use Pale Moon to test websites on Windows.

Corel Gallery I use Corel Gallery fonts (from a product no longer available) for fonts on my websites.

DP4 Font Viewer I use the DP4 Font Viewer to reveal details about fonts, especially widths and weights.
PrintMyFonts I use the free PrintMyFonts to produce specimens of fonts.
Universal Character Map I use Universal Character Map to reveal details about fonts, especially symbols, dingbats, and emoji.

FTP Utilities

Filezilla I use FileZilla to transfer files between PCs and servers.

Expression Design 4 I use the Microsoft Expression Design 4 to create images.
Face Filter I use Reallusion’s FaceFilter to improve the look of faces in photos.
PaintShop Pro I use the u/maxst aPNG Assembler to create animated PNG images from existing images.
PaintShop Pro I use Corel’s Aftershot, Animation Shop, Creative Collection, PainterEssentials, PaintShop Pro 7, Paintshop Pro 2019, Particle Shop, Perfectly Clear, Photo Mirage, and PicToPainting to create and edit most of my graphics files, such as JPEG, GIF, animated GIF, and PNG files.
Adobe ImageStyler I use Adobe ImageStyler (a product no longer available) to create and edit some gra­phics files, mainly PNG files.
Adobe LiveMotion I use Adobe LiveMotion (a product no longer available) to create and edit some gra­phics files, mainly PNG files.
JPEGcrop I use JPEGcrop to losslessly edit JPEG files.
IcoFx I use IcoFx to create and edit ICO graphics files.
Real World Cursor Editor I use Real World Cursor Editor to create and edit CUR cursor graphics files.
Wood Workshop I use Spiral Graphic’s Wood Workshop to create and edit wood texture images.

E-Mage I use E-Mage to optimize PNG images, to minimize file sizes and load times.
WebPconv I use the GUI WebPconv to produce WebP images, to reduce file sizes and load times.
PNG Gauntlet I use PNG Gauntlet to optimize PNG images, to minimize file sizes and load times.

FindUnusedFiles.exe I use Robert Hoffman’s FindUnusedFiles.exe to check for unused files.
Xenu I use Xenu’s Link Sleuth to check for broken links.

Office Document Tools

Microsoft OneNote I use Microsoft OneNote to make notes.
Microsoft Word I use Microsoft Word to create documents.
Microsoft Excel I use Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets.
