Coding Fonts with Ligatures

Some coders’ fonts have ligatures for operators, e.g. ≠ for !=, substituting the former for the latter when rendering program code.

Fonts listed at the left with daggers (†) have ligatures for operators.

Some coders like these ligatures, and some don’t. This author considers these ligatures confusing when the programming language doesn’t use them, but quite acceptable for pseudocode and for languages which do use them. Designers who create web pages which display program code should take this into consideration, and use the CSS font-variant-ligatures:none; when they wish to prevent the ligatures from being used.

Note that some fonts with ligatures have errors in the fonts which result in the wrong glyphs being displayed.
